So for the past few months I have been suffering from aching bones and joints, initially I thought I was just working out at the gym too hard (which may well be contributing), but then I realised that it seems to come on severe when the weather changes and it gets cold and wet! Usually I would join the queue at the local medical centre, get the problem diagnosed and then start on yet 'another' set of tablets, but this time I decide to do some research on joint and bone pain to find the common causes and perhaps some alternatives to taking the heavy pain killers and inflammatories. Maybe even some home remedies or dietary changes that will go along with my new 'healthier' life vision.
The research I found noted the below as the main causes of joint pain?
- Hereditary (Thanks M & D)
- Gender- Females are more susceptible
- Weight – Heavier the people, the more stress they put on their joints.
Increasing age.
- Lifestyle/Work – Heavy lifting can stress joints and lead to joint pain and injury, bad posture, wrong exercise and repetitive action.
- Other causes include spicy or fried food, a sedentary lifestyle (which makes the supporting muscles flaccid and thus overburdens the joints).
Well for me, it's F) all of the above!
Here are some Natural Home remedies that may ease my joint pains:
- Use Massaging Oils to relieve joint pain. Such as warm olive oil or one teaspoon of camphor with one teaspoonful of sunflower oil or hot vinegar or two part of pure olive oil and two part kerosene oil or by mixing camphor, methyl salicyclate, eucalyptus oil and menthol or by mixing two Cayenne pepper in 250 ml of Coconut oil.
- Drink papaya seed tea 6 or 7 times daily for 2 or 3 weeks.
- Eat Garlic cloves fried in butter
- Take half teaspoon of turmeric powder in warm water at least twice a day.
- Mix two teaspoon of apple cider and two teaspoon of honey dissolved in small glass of warm water.
- Mix fresh carrot juice with equal amount of lemon juice and take one large teaspoon daily.
- Take a 1 tbs. of turmeric powder and castor oil, make a mixture for this and ingest it.
- Make alfalfa tea and drink it 2 times a day.
- In a quarter cup of water, soak a tsp of black sesame seeds and keep it overnight. The next morning consume the water along with the seeds.
- Drink 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice.
- Drink raw potato juice on an empty stomach every morning.
- Mix 1 cup of any green vegetable juice with equal proportions of carrots, celery and red beet juices.
- Among fruits banana is considered as best for joints as they provide strength and grease to the joints.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat fresh fish every day or swallow fish oil pills.
- Increase intake of oils rich in omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins.
- Try a dietary supplement like Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate tablets.
